Eric -- Novus Day's Excecutive Director -- brings more than 35 years of educational experience to Novus Day School. He has served as a special education teacher, assistant principal, principal, and regional vice president of a national educational services company. In 2003, he founded an organization to develop therapeutic day and alternative schools. At Novus, Eric provides educational leadership and helps guide the school’s commitment to individualized academic and therapeutic support. In his spare time, Eric enjoys soccer, bike riding, and listening to different genres of music.

Corey has more than 30 years of experience in education and social services. He has served as a special education teacher and principal of therapeutic and alternative schools, and later helped youth in care access employment opportunities through his work with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services. At Novus, Corey brings expertise in school climate, restorative practices, and student support as Director of Student Services. He also serves as Novus Day's Director of Enrollment. Corey enjoys playing golf, bowling, bike riding, and attending live sports events.

Barry brings over 25 years of experience in the educational innovation arena, and a diverse background in accounting, law, and business. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from Bentley University and his JD from the University of Maryland School of Law. Upon graduation from law school, Barry represented businesses for over a decade at large Baltimore law firms. In 2003, he left private practice to become an entrepreneur in the education field, opening and operating alternative and therapeutic schools, and developing innovative curricula. He has opened numerous schools and educational programs with a focus on changing the landscape of urban education for the most disadvantaged and disengaged students. Barry is also active in his community and sits on the boards of several nonprofit organizations. In his free time, he enjoys biking, skiing, softball, and pickleball.

Brooke has been a School Social Worker for 10 years and has served at Novus Day since January 2024, where she is the Clinical Director and School Social Worker. She is passionate about working with students in a therapeutic school setting and loves that every day brings something different. For Brooke, the most rewarding part of her work is watching students grow, overcome challenges, and celebrate their successes. Outside of work, Brooke enjoys spending time with her family, attending concerts and comedy shows, cheering on her kids at sporting events, and traveling internationally, especially to her favorite destination, Jamaica. She approaches both life and her work with positivity and resilience, inspired by one of her favorite quotes: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” Beyoncé

Michelle serves as our IEP Case Manager and Autism Teacher. She is a dedicated educator with 27 years of teaching experience, having served students in multiple states as her family relocated throughout her husband’s career in the United States Air Force. Of those 27 years, 17 have been devoted to special education, where Michelle has developed a deep passion for helping every child recognize their strengths, overcome challenges, and grow both academically and personally. She believes that all students can learn and thrive when they are provided with encouragement, patience, and individualized support. Michelle brings compassion, experience, and a genuine love of teaching to her classroom each day. Outside of school, she is a proud mom of three children, six grandchildren, and a devoted dog mom to three German Shepherds.

Marshall brings nearly 30 years of experience in education, including service as a principal and school administrator with Chicago Public Schools. Marshall brings extensive experience working with students who require therapeutic, behavioral, and academic support. He holds master’s degrees in Public Administration Management and Administration and Supervision, along with an Illinois Administrative endorsement, formerly known as the Type 75, and a Learning Behavior Specialist I endorsement. At Novus, Marshall serves as a special education math teacher, helping students develop practical math, problem-solving, and independent-living skills. He is also committed to strengthening school climate, supporting staff development, and creating a structured and nurturing educational environment. Outside of school, Marshall enjoys gardening, especially planting tulips and roses, entertaining family and friends, and remaining active in his community.

William (Bill) Grotthuss is a licensed Special Education teacher (LBS-1) with a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and a Principal’s Endorsement. Bill has 40+ years of experience in the field of Special Education, as Classroom Teacher, Special Education Coordinator, and Principal. Following retirement from the Public School realm of education and administration, Bill has pursued his passion to return to the classroom to become more directly involved with students - enjoying the opportunity to be a part of the Novus Day School team. In his spare time, Bill focuses on fitness, enjoys watching sports, as well as working on projects around the house.

Patrice is a dedicated Special Education professional with an MSE in Special Education and an MBA in Human Resources/General Management. Her experience includes serving as a Special Education Director, Diagnostician, Special Education Teacher, and graduate-level instructor. At Novus, Patrice provides individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning and behavioral needs while helping them develop academic, executive functioning, and self-advocacy skills. She is passionate about creating a supportive environment where students feel valued, understood, and empowered to reach their goals. Outside of work, Patrice enjoy reading, shopping, traveling, and spending quality time with her family.
